The
Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) FCT chapter, has called on the
National Assembly to give special consideration to funds budgeted for
the FCT, so that area councils can pursue infrastructural development.
The
chairman of the FCT NUJ, Comrade Chuks Ehirim, made the call in Bwari
when he led members of the union to Bwari Area Council in continuation
of the assessment tour of projects executed by the FCTA. He said part of
the reasons most council bosses were not performing in terms of project
implementation was due to paucity of funds.
“We
know that one percent of the budget that has to come to the FCT has
been withdrawn,” Comrade Ehirim said. “The people need dividends of
democracy and we are here to urge you to provide the dividends of
democracy.”
He
therefore called on the National Assembly to increase the revenue of
the FCT so that the local government areas will get more and do more for
people at the grassroots.
