PICTURES: National Youth Games Opening Ceremony 2013

The opening ceremony for the first ever National Youth Games took place in Abuja n Sunday December 8, as over 4, 000 athletes descended on a capital.
 
The Minister of Sports Bolaji Abdullahi officially declared the games open with a speech at the Abuja National Stadium, after which state by state processions, and a performance by singer Wizkid marked the occasion.

Over 4, 000 athletes aged of 13 -17 from 31 states including the FCT are taking part in 14 sports including boxing, badminton, handball, taekwondo, track and field, weightlifting, basketball, football, table tennis, volleyball and wrestling. 

Benue and Delta States came with the highest contingents of 200 each, with 150 from Anambra and 142 from Osun. Lagos, Zamfara, Adamawa and Ekiti did not register for the games, which will come to a close on Saturday 14 December.
