The
National Automotive Council (NAC), Nigeria, is partnering with the
Japanese government to set up an automobile recycling plant in Abuja.
The Director-General of NAC, Mr Aminu Jalal, who made this know to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) recently, said the council was working with the Japan International Co-operation Agency (JICA) and the Federal Capital Territory Administration to implement the plan.
“JICA
has already paid for the feasibility study of the pilot plant. What
delayed the project was obtaining land from the FCTA but we have now got
the land,” he said.
Mr
Jalal said the proposed plant would make use of junk and abandoned
vehicles that constitute a nuisance to the environment, adding that the
pilot plant would also serve as a training centre on automobile
recycling for staff of the council and other relevant government
agencies.
