The
government, according to reports by Vanguard newspaper, will give each
of the 492 delegates and six secretariat officials N4 million per month
for accommodation and other logistics during the three-month National
Conference, which will begin in Abuja next Monday.
Many
of the delegates had refused to be booked into choice hotels in the
capital for the duration of the conference for security reasons, and
opted instead for the flat rate payments in lieu of accommodation.
Some
of the senior government officials and delegates also argued that they
had comfortable homes in Abuja, they would prefer to stay in their
houses and commute to the conference venue.
The
Presidency had set aside N7 billion for the organisation of the
conference, and at the rate of N4 million for the 492 delegates and six
secretaries for the three-month duration of the conference, more than N5
billion will be spent on accommodation alone.
