Emirates
Airlines today confirmed that it will be flying to Dubai from Abuja and
Kano International airports starting from August 2014.
The
Federal Ministry of Aviation approved the career’s request to expand
its operations in Nigeria, and the airline’s Senior Vice President Salem Obaidalla disclosed
that daily flights will now be in operation from Northern Nigeria to
the Middle East, to add to its twice-daily flights from Lagos.
“In
accordance with the existing UAE-Nigeria agreement on air services, [we
will commence] with four weekly flights routed Dubai-Abuja-Kano-Dubai
and three weekly flights routed Dubai-Kano-Abuja-Dubai, without carriage
of domestic traffic between Abuja and Kano,” he said.
The
Aviation Minister Stella Oduah praised the expansion, stating that
passengers from Abuja and Kano who fly Emirates would now be able to
board the airline from their doorsteps.
“I am particularly delighted with this development,” she said.
