The
Federal Territory Administration (FCTA) plans to relocate inhabitants
and businesses at the Apo Mechanic Village to Wasa, as the current site
was never approved for their activities.
The Coordinator of the Abuja Metropolitan Management Company (AMMC) Mr Reuben Okoya said in Abuja on Tuesday that the mechanic village was not an appropriate premises for business.
“But the FCTA has graciously agreed to relocate them to Wasa, a place that is more convenient,” he said.
Okoya
said the city’s continued demolition and clearance of illegal
structures around the Apo area was necessary to ensure that the FCT
master plan was adhered to.
“Abuja,
as our capital city, should be the pride of every Nigerian and people
should not be allowed to alter its structural plan,” he said.
Reports
also indicate that the Mechanic Village was being cleared to allow a
road that will link Apo to Abaji to be constructed.
