The
Fiscal Responsibility Commission has said that the Federal Capital
Territory (FCT) and 29 states have been ignoring the Fiscal
Responsibility law.
The
Acting Chairman of the Commission, Mr Victor Muruako, who made the
revelation in Abuja recently, said that only seven states including
Kebbi, Kwara, Taraba and Ekiti have implemented the law so far.
Mr. Muruako urged each state to set up a Fiscal Responsibility Commission to enforce the law in their respective domains.
The
fiscal responsibility law came into force at the federal level
following the signing of the Fiscal Responsibility Act, 2007 by the late
President Musa Yar’Adua. The law provides for prudent management of the
nation’s resources through greater accountability and transparency in
fiscal operations, among other statutes.
