The
President of the Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN), Chief Solomon
Ogba has accused the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA),
headed by Sen. Bala Muhammed of not being interested in sport.
Chief
Ogba made the statement recently at the National Stadium in Abuja while
inaugurating the technical committee for the Abuja Marathon Race and
unveiling of AFN’s programmes for 2014. He said the administration was
not giving the race the necessary support.
Chief
Ogba noted that all major capital cities in the world organise one or
two marathons each year, adding that the long distance race and other
day-long sports events are becoming tourist attractions.
“Abuja is supposed to have a good marathon race that will help project the city to the world,” he said.
He revealed that AFN will hold a marathon either in Abuja or Lagos on October 1st to commemorate Nigeria’s independence anniversary celebration.
