Four Soldiers Accused of Raping 7 Prostitutes

The four soldiers charged with raping seven prostitutes in Abuja last month also confiscated N104, 000 from the victims, according to a prosecution witness.

Olamide Olayemi, testifying at an FCT High Court yesterday said the four dismissed soldiers, Nse Eywdip, 33; Ugwu Mathew, 23; Emezien Uzonna, 24, and Efosa Ikhomoregbe, 23 were supposed to be on guard duty at the Airtel Mast in Wuse 2 on the night of December 21 to 23, but had left their post to go to the River Plate Garden in Wuse 2 to commit the crimes.

“The accused left their guard duty-post with their Hilux Van, armed with their official riffles.

They arrested the victims and collected N104, 000 from them which they shared” he said.

Olayemi, who is also one of the investigating police officers, told the court that he took the statement of the fourth accused, Ikhomoregbe, who told him that he got only N1, 500 from the money they stole from their victims.

“He also told me that his colleague, Matthew, the second accused, had sexual intercourse with one of the victims with her consent,” he said.

Olayemi led the team of police officers who took the victims to Wuse General Hospital, where they were examined and the medical report sent to the police.

The four accused, who have already been dismissed from the Nigerian Army, pleaded not guilty to conspiracy, rape, assault and armed robbery. The case has been adjourned to 19 February.
