VIO impounds over 20, 000 vehicles in the FCT

In a breakdown of its activities for the year 2013, the Vehicle Inspection Office (VIO), Federal Capital Territory Command, said it impounded a total of 20, 107 vehicles for various traffic offences.
The Public Relations Officer of Abuja’s VIO, Mr. Kenechukwu Iloduba, gave the figures in a statement in Abuja recently. He added that the agency also impounded 5, 090 motorcycles in the same year.
These confiscations, he said, include motorcycles that fell afoul of the task force’s ban, unpainted cabs, cars that were illegally parked, and those found at illegal mechanic workshops.
In addition, 536 tricycles (Keke Napeps) were also seized for route violation and 360 buses were impounded for violating the ban on the operation of commercial buses instituted in June last year.
