President Goodluck Jonathan has issued
a six-month ultimatum to managers of Nigeria’s electricity sector to ensure
stable power supply across the country.
The Minister of Power, Prof. Chinedu
Nebo, made the President’s directive known in Abuja yesterday while
inaugurating the new Chairman of the Supervisory Board of the Transmission
Company of Nigeria (TCN), Mr. Ibrahim Waziri, who takes over from Mr. Hamman
Tukur.
Prof. Nebo said that the president had
asked that results of government’s reforms in the power sector must become
palpable to Nigerians across the country by June this year.
Currently, Nigeria has a total
installed generation capacity of 6,976.40 megawatts (MW) but transmits less
than 4,000MW.
